Western Isles of Scotland

I have to confess I was improperly excited. Maybe just over expectation but after a gentle visit to Orkney maybe I was lulled into a false sense of expectation.
The place was barren and un-inviting. So were the locals.
The visitors were great. Warm friendly and great company but all from Europe. None from Britain until today. Fresh out of Glasgow for the Bank Holiday...bugger !
The locals were on the other hand a bit like wild animals that had been tamed by hand feeding by tourists.
Cold greedy rude and unwelcoming unless there was money in the hand like bread for seagulls. They get upset if not fed. They react if not understood with accusation like “don’t you speak English”  !
I hope I am wrong and I will expand on this view after I have left which cannot come soon enough after I shelter from the approaching storm in a bush shelter.
There are 100 people waiting for the ferry tomorrow and 100 that just got off tonight and there are 100 beds. Work it out. That timetable must have another agenda. I am thinking it’s cheaper to dock on Barra than on the mainland for the ferry, not for anyone else.
On top of that tonight we are told to expect 60 mph wind and arctic type storms with deluges of rain.
Possibly the ferry will not sail. That should create more chaos.
Any time soon I can leave this place the better pleased I will be.
My first impression of Barra is that the highly paid from Glashow fly in to revisit their roots all with fashion extras and dyed hair and the women are as bad.
The Islands themselves are a barren waste. Hugely attractive like Otago in winter similar climate as summer here with lots of one way roads and passing bays. The two lane sections proudly built by funding from the EU !
This place is pure contradiction.  How those that live on the public purse will survive will be a study in contortion finance.
So having got that off my chest I will have own up I was offered a bed in a room in a house for £80 payable in cash. The credit card companies are awake to that and it is as hard to get cash as it is to change foreign currency. Banks refuse !
The answer it seems is back to the old days of cash in waist belts.
How far we have come.
More important, is how soon can I leave these Scottish Isles.
